Hi Vance,

Regarding my post in the ROKMC's website, Mr. Koo left his insight on the subject in Korean. The following is my translation. Hope this would be of some help. Thanks. Jae

According to my recollection, the 10th company commander, captain Yoon, Choon-ung( Korea Navy Academy 14th graduate) suffered a defeat and went through countless ordeals in commanding operations against enemy during the Tet offensive where he had lost two platoon leaders including a lot of his soldiers. It was a terrible misfortune for him to encounter unrelenting enemy attacks of NVA’s main body during the Tet offensive.

At last the 10th company was able to narrowly escape from the bitter combats thanks to the commando company’s special operation with bird assault after many twists and turns. I assume that this photo was taken in early February 1968 as I was able to hear related information while serving as the senior platoon leader of the 27th company under the 5th battalion.

I guess that the soldier sitting behind captain Yoon must be his messenger with the rank of corporal.

After returning from Vietnam, captain Yoon and I served together in the ROKMC’s Seoul district military police unit. Captain Yoon was always treated by me as my own elder brother. He was later promoted to a major. Afterwards retiring from the military, he immigrated to the United States in early stage. Unfortunately, I heard that captain Yoon has recently passed away due to his chronic disease in the States.
