It’d
be a great honor for the South Koreans
According
to media reports, President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol will soon dispatch a delegation
to the United States before the US Congress recess begins.
The
reports added that Rep. Park Jin of the People Power Party was appointed to
lead the delegation team and expected to meet high ranking officials in the US
government and leaders of Congress.
Although,
as a man of the people, I am unaware of the current issues that will be soon
discussed between President-elect Yoon’s delegation and the US officials, I assume
that both sides will perhaps mainly focus on strengthening ROK-US Alliance that
has been, to some extent, on the wane for years since the liberal government
took office in 2017.
The
planned talks set in early April seem to bring every possible effort in
resuming the alliance that was particularly forged on the battlefield standing
shoulder and shoulder. It will be of primary importance under the present tense
situation where North Korea steps up its saber-rattling even by launching a
suspected ICBM Hwasung-17 that directly threatens not only the United States
but also South Korea and Japan.
As
reported, President-elect, Yoon Suk-yeol will be sworn in on May 10, 2022 as
the 20th President of the Republic of Korea. Therefore, it is believed that many of foreign
country heads and diplomats will be invited to the inaugural ceremony. On the
occasion of the presidential inaugural ceremony, as a citizen of South Korea, I
would earnestly request the US president Biden and Japanese Prime Minister
Kishida, if possible, to attend the inauguration.
If
realized, it would be not only a great honor for the South Koreans but also the
strongest signal to the NK regime that the blood-bonded ally, the United States
and our immediate neighboring country, Japan stand firmly behind us. The solidarity
will certainly deter the North Korean regime from threatening and blackmailing
towards South Korea and the free world.
