Praying for an ever closer alliance with the United States Early in the morning on Memorial Day (June 6), after hoisting a half-mast flag at my flat's veranda, I headed for the Seoul National Cemetery. On the way to the National Cemetery with the metro line #4 that goes by way of the National Cemetery station, I unusually found there were many empty seats left in the tube that used to be jammed with a lot of visitors particularly on the Memorial Day every year, though. I assumed it happened due to the current pandemic crisis. When arrived at the main gate, there was a long line of visitors who gathered to pay their respects to those who sacrificed lives for the country. I paid respect first to the late General Chae Myung-shing as his tomb is pretty close to the main entrance. And then, I walked up the hill where the two legendary leaders, our nation founder, President Rhee, Syng-man and President Park, Jung-hee are enshrined. While bowing down before the two great leaders, I prayed not only for country’s prosperity but an ever closer and stronger alliance with the United States.
